The vogue lounge is a dance class and kickback space for queer BIPOC and allies to come together, learn about the history of ballroom culture, and develop their voguing skills.
The class is an intermediate level but all skill levels are encouraged to join us as there will be beginner variations. Heels are encouraged but not required. Please dress comfortably and bring a water bottle.
I have been teaching vogue for going on 3 years now. Beyond my love for the art form of, it’s been an effort to shed light on the gap between the black and queer communities in Iowa and build a bridge for the two. Since it’s 1960’s revival, ballroom has been a sacred space for black and brown queer folks to seek refuge, express themselves, and build community.
This night full of unapologetic queer joy preserves our histories while simultaneously innovating our futures.
